Contemporary Identity
This three-artist presentation brings together the practices of India Mullen (Ireland) @indiamullen, Mila Dobrevska (Italy) @em.mila.em.dobra and Carmen Delgado Huertas (Spain) @carmendelgadohuertas in a shared inquiry into contemporary identity, interiority, and the tension between self and surrounding structures. Moving across photography, tapestry, mosaic and painting, the exhibition unfolds as a fragmented yet intimate landscape of becoming.
Mullen’s photographic series traces the dissonance of early adulthood, where overconsumption and visual excess heighten a sense of isolation. Her images situate the self within a saturated, restless environment, questioning how identity is shaped through external noise. Likewise exploring young adulthood, Dobrevska’s oil on wood works employ impasto to construct figures that emerge through material density, forming quiet yet charged relationships within shared spaces. Her practice navigates the fragile balance between individuality and collective belonging, where figures subtly resist imposed frameworks.
Delgado’s paintings turn inward, presenting identity as something formed independently from external surroundings or social influence. Her figures exist through emotional and bodily presence alone, expressed through recurring dualities: rigid postures and delicate surfaces, heavy blue skirts that become extensions of the body, gestures of touch that soften hardened forms. Suspended between strength and fragility, her works create intimate spaces shaped by stillness, mystery, and introspection.
Together, the works propose identity as fluid, embodied, and continuously negotiated between inner reflection and external condition.
