Description
Sweet Memories is a collection of 44 unique lithographs, created from 22 distinct images, printed on handmade recycled paper. Each image represents a real memory, selected from public collection boxes and an open call.
When exhibited, these prints are placed in sealed envelopes. Viewers are invited to pick and experience the memories of others as their own. This act of selection introduces an element of anticipation and chance, akin to a lottery or a magical pawn shop deal, while also revealing a voyeuristic curiosity about the chosen person’s thoughts and emotions, and fostering an intimate connection.
In this way, a personal memory becomes a shared one.
Ana Jovanovska is an award-winning Macedonian printmaker, graphic designer and all around artist based in Tokyo. Her art practice is rooted in observation and reaction to the current time, spaces and emotions, reflecting their states within the contemporary discourse. She researches and creates intuitively, through re-examining and retelling of narratives and memories, under the presumption that the structure of personal thought and of collective societies is conditioned by the structure of language itself.
