Description

Filip Velkovski is one of the most prominent visual artists from North Macedonia, that is currently living and working in Glasgow, Scotland.
His artist research draws upon mental images, dreams and marginal mythologies. He uses the medium of painting, installation and digital illustration in order to produce fictional scenarios and subversive spaces. Filip’s works are composed of thick layers of colors and a variety of materials, through which he emphasizes the material and metaphysical aspects of the medium itself and its relation to society. Filip has participated in more than 20 solo and group exhibitions in Macedonia and abroad, like Germany, Scotland, Bulgaria, UK, USA and so on.

In this painting, Filip is exploring the relationship between language and image.
The painting is formed from layers and textures and by scrapping out the paint, he reveals religious and pagan art motifs which are painted and over painted multiple times.
His works often express the complexity of thoughts and language in relation with the medium of painting.
