Ana Jovanovska, 2022, Tokyo
Size: 12x6cm
Plastic discs, recycled doll parts and pressed flowers

Part of a larger body of work. The objects
are made of recycled and altered plastic
dolls and various pressed flowers and leaves,
arranged and cast in transparent epoxy resin.
They were created in repetitive stages from
mid-March 2020 to early 2021. The stages consist
of growing, nurturing, and gathering plants in
all seasons, selecting, drying, and pressing the
plants for longer amounts of time, reworking anew
the old plastic dolls, organizing and positioning
the elements in molds, casting with epoxy resin,
followed by setting period, and finally polishing
the finished objects by hand several times.

In her artistic practice, Ana Jovanovska explores and questions narratives, approaching them through symbols and structure of the language in which they are found.

The ‘Cycles’ Series

The papers are carefully annotated and numbered according to their origins: fiscal receipts, passenger tickets, math homework, love letters, old drawings, quick sketches, failed graphics… showing a different present on the surface that reflects the past between the layers.
